NAQP RTTY Feb 2019 contest – 254 contacts!

This is a new contest record for me. Also I think the most time I put into a contest. I took a couple half hour breaks and an extended dinner and cigar break, operated about 9 hours total. I turned the volume down on the RTTY tones so they didn’t stick with me quite as long as the last couple times I’ve done a RTTY contest, that beeping has a way of driving into your brain. I did really well on 20m but most of the second half of the contest was on 80m and I felt like I was getting overpowered there. I would call and call and I wouldn’t get a response until no one else was calling. Might be time for an amp. I really wanted an amp in the beginning of my ham radio time, just cause “more power”. But after actually doing it for awhile it’s pretty rare when I feel like I “need” one, but last night was one of those times. I think I’d like a fancier radio first.

The new antenna balun performed pretty well I think.

Here’s my claimed score report:

Class: Single Op LP QTH: Operating Time (hrs): 9:00 Summary: Band QSOs Mults 80: 71 27 40: 62 24 20: 119 32 15: 2 2 10: Total: 254 85 Total Score = 21,590 Club: Florida Contest Group Team: ORANGE SQUEEZERS-2
Map of contacts. I felt like there were a lot from IL.
