This year we hosted the summer Field Day at the SPARC club station. After a discussion with the members we decide to be a “D” Class station rather than “A” to make it easier since it was the first time we’ve done it as a single club in awhile. “A” stations use generator power and temporary antennas. We just got the permanent tower in working order so we wanted to test it out. We did setup a temporary Zero-Five antenna like the one I have at my house.
Saturday was really slow, we had around 350 contacts, but things really picked up Sunday morning and we ended the weekend with 1,455 contacts, of which I had 406 CW. Around 5am I tried to sleep in my car for a couple hours but I’m too big for that. I was pretty beat by around 11:30am (event ends at 2pm) and W4CU who was also working a lot of CW encouraged me to finish it out. I was counting down the minutes till the end working the CQ button and putting Q’s in the log but it’s all a blur now but it was fun.
I think the event was a success and we had 40 people on the sign-in sheet. Looking forward to next year where we’ll definitely rework it to be an “A” class.
