Finally got out of town, probably should have just been doing parks this whole time, there was the normal (large) amount of traffic on the Skyway bridge heading over to Parrish, FL where this park is. This is one of the newly added Wildlife Management Areas in Florida and it hadn’t been activated yet.
When I arrived there was a woman on a horse. She said she’s been around there for 6 years and I’m only the 4th person she’s ever seen there. The was also a children’s playground that looked like it had never been used. There’s a covered pavilion right at the entrance, no table but I brought my own, the shade with the breeze made for a perfect temperature.
I started out on CW and got a pile-up going pretty quick. Seems like everyone was perfectly zero-beating so they all sound like the same tone and I had a little trouble picking them out. I felt significantly better at it than the last time I did a CW POTA activation since I’m been practicing a lot for the CW Academy. I made 16 CW contacts then switched to USB when I wasn’t getting a response anymore. The voice contacts came rapid fire and I ended up with 55 total contacts with 3 of those as park to park contacts.
I had a little time to walk around the woods a bit after.
