K-4473 Chattahoochee National Forest – Lake Conasauga

I drove up to the National Convention in Dayton, OH this year and stopped on the way in Georgia and Tennessee to camp and do some Parks on the Air Activations. My first stop was Lake Conasauga in north Georgia. This lake has a fairly traditional campground, which I normally avoid, but it’s way out there so there’s not electric and I figured it wouldn’t be crowded on a Sunday and Monday night. When I arrived on Sunday evening there were probably about 20 people around but by nightfall it was just me.

This was a beautiful site but without cell service I struggled to get spotted on the POTA page and didn’t end up with too many contacts. It took about an hour on a dirt road to get out here but it was a great spot. I imagine it’s crowded on weekends but I only saw a couple people for the two nights I stay here. There’s frogs at night that are very loud down by the lake, I needed to use ear plugs when I slept. I’d recommend this place during the week to people looking for a remote camping location that still has a flush toilet. I imagine it’s a good place for family’s on the weekend.

Overlook on the way in, about 6 miles from the campground
Campsite, I bungie’d the spiderbeam mast to the pole on the left
